How do I choose which hosting plan is right for me?

Shared Web Hosting: This is the basic type of hosting which most people will want. You will be able to host more than one website and enjoy HostGator's award winning 24/7/365 support available through phone, email and live chat. Our support agents are never outsourced; everyone you speak to works in the United States of America. [Order now]

Reseller Hosting: This type of plan is designed to make you your own hosting company. If you want to sell hosting services for profit, then you want to be a reseller. We also recommend this type of hosting if you have more than one e-commerce website, and need more than one SSL certificate, because each SSL requires its own cPanel. You will still be able to host more than one website and enjoy HostGator's award winning 24/7/365 support available through phone, email and live chat. [Order Now]

VPS Hosting: The main point of upgrading to a VPS from a shared or reseller account would be for flexibility in software installations, Apache configurations, and other custom software (ventrilo, ffmpeg, etc). A VPS also provides more freedom to send emails and stream media. A VPS is not a solution to an overly resource-intensive account. [Order Now]

Dedicated Hosting: This is the most powerful type of hosting, which meets the requirements and needs of big businesses. Dedicated server owners are allowed to sell hosting services for profit, and you can choose the server specifications and environment. If you have heavy traffic, a very popular site, or a large customer database, then consider Dedicated Hosting. A dedicated server also provides more freedom to send emails and stream media. You will also be able to host more than one website and enjoy HostGator's award winning 24/7/365 support available through phone, email and live chat. [Order Now]

Hi There!

Is there any limit to pricing on the reseller plans? I.e. Does the reseller have total discretion over the price he/she chooses to sell a domain name at? Or are all prices subject to a minimum (such as the the price that Hostgator charges for the same service)?

Thanks in advance.

HostGator
As the reseller, you run your business however you prefer.

If you want to give away domain registrations and hosting for free (and pay the cost out of your own pocket), you can do that.

If you want to sell domain registrations and hosting for profit, you can do that.

I want to upload websites that will eventually be sold on to other users. It looks as though a reseller account would be best for that. Am I right?

HostGator
If you intend to keep the website on your hosting plan, then yes you will need a reseller account.

If you are merely selling the source code, and the code will not stay on your account, then you can do that from a regular shared web hosting plan.

I have a reseller account and would like to setup a server and host several domains for a client. I cannot find a way to do this within a single account. I'd be interested to hear a solution.

HostGator
As a reseller, you can Create a New Account in WHM, and this will create a cPanel for your client.

If you give your client a package that allows multiple addon domains, then he can login to his cPanel and host that many different domains by creating them as Addon domains.

Are custom reseller packages available? My intention is not to make profit, but to keep separate domain cPanels. I use 1GB/20GB at the moment; the current smallest reseller packages is far too large and high-priced for me.

HostGator
Please email [email protected] to inquire about special reseller packages.

How does support work, and more importantly, who's responsible for providing client-level support, for the reseller accounts being used for
A) multiple ecommerce sites for me, with no acounts actually being resold and created for others, or
B) a combination of the two (some accounts for my stores and others resold by me as an additional revenue stream.)

HostGator
We offer support the account owner, regardless of whether the help is for a resold plan or not.

We do NOT offer support for non-owners.

This means the resold clients cannot get support from HostGator, but they can get support from the Reseller owner, and the reseller owner can then consult HostGator for help.
