What is a subdomain name? How do I create and delete one?

A subdomain is a second website, with its own unique content, but there is no new domain name. Instead, you use an existing domain name and change the www to another name. The subdomain name looks like forums.domain.com, help.domain.com, help2.domain.com (assuming you already host domain.com).

To learn how to setup a subdomain, watch this movie tutorial.

To create a subdomain, please do the following:

  1. Login to cPanel and click Subdomains.
  2. In the drop-down, choose the domain.
  3. In the box before the domain, type the subdomain name you want.
  4. Click inside the "Document Root" box and it will auto-fill.
  5. Hit the Create button.

To delete a subdomain, please do the following:
  1. Login to cPanel and click Subdomains.
  2. At the bottom, under Actions, click Remove.

I'm trying to sign up via the Order Wizard, but when i enter my existing domain in the box (www-domain.com) the Order Wizard truncates it to domain.com (which is a domain I do not own). I also tried entering www.www-domain.com but it is still truncated to domain.com on the following page of the Order Wizard. Please help!

In WHM I deleted a acount (support.domain.com), but kept DNS zone.

Now I wanted to add the account again and get this message.

Sorry, a DNS entry for xxx.com already exists, please delete it first (from all servers in the dns cluster)

I would like to recreate this subdomain. How can I solve this problem?

HostGator
In WHM, delete the DNS zone for that subdomain name. Then you can add the account, again.
